Black Scorpion Specimen Feature

  • Real insect!
  • Insects are safely encased in acrylic!
  • Great conversation piece!

There are about 8000 species of scorpions living in the world today. Most scorpions are generally harmless and timid, and usually only use their stinger when involved in territorial disputes, when killing prey, or for defending itself. They often will run from danger or remain still in front of perceived predators. However, the stings of some scorpions can be dangerous to humans. The androctonus australis, or yellow-tailed scorpion of North Africa, and the leiurus quinquestriatus, or deathstalker scorpion, are examples of scorpions that should DEFINITELY be avoided.

Why worry about messing around with a live scorpion when you can get a real one already prepared for you to examine anyways? Students and teachers needn't worry, this scorpion won't scurry away! This is a great specimen of a REAL black scorpion mounted in a clear acrylic block. Great for looking at details under a microscope, or for having in the classroom, this is a great educational resource for the young science student or for the serious entomologist!

Actual size of block is 3in x 1.5in x 1in (7.6cm x 3.8cm x 2.5cm)

Box Size: 5.50in (13.97cm) x 2.50in (6.35cm) x 1.25in (3.18cm)

Recommended for ages 10 and older.
